Commonly Asked Questions

How many interviews will I need to go to?

Although the number will vary, time spent interviewing is dramatically reduced when you use a recruiter. In fact, the entire job-hunting process is simplified and less stressful, compared to doing it on your own. When you interview in response to ads, you often find that the job isn't as described, you're overqualified or the money is not right. With a recruiter, all of the positions you interview for will fall within your parameters. You spend your time interviewing for "qualified" positions.

Will you keep my search confidential?

Yes! In fact, one of the greatest benefits of using a recruiter is that you are not sending a resume to an anonymous person, as you would by responding to an ad. Your name and company are not posted on Internet sites, such as Monster. Companies will not call you at work at inconvenient or inappropriate times.

How many recruiters should I use?

You should use as few as you feel comfortable with. It is important that you are always aware of all opportunities available. If that means using more than one recruiter, then you may have to. However, more than two is not recommended. You should have only one recruiter representing you to a client. When a company gets your name from more than one source, a couple of things could happen. The first is that you appear desperate to the client. This may hurt salary negotiations. Another is that the second recruiter knows who the competition is. While there is always competition for open positions, remaining anonymous gives you more of an advantage.

How long will my job search take?

That is a very good question, and not an easy one to answer. Some research shows the average time spent on a job search directly relates to the number of years you have spent in that field.
Generally, each search is roughly two weeks for every year you are in the market. If you have been out of school for eight years, this theory approximates your search will take four months. But sometimes, it is just being at the right place at the right time. Often, when you are meeting with a recruiter for a position currently open, you can be hired within the week. Sometimes your ideal job may take a few months to open up. Using a professional recruiter inevitably reduces time spent searching.
